CUPE Local 3912, representing part-time faculty at MSVU are currently on strike. Discussions on part-time faculty collective agreements have been ongoing in the past week(s) in various institutions in the HRM. MSVUSU acknowledges and respects their right to labour action, and we hope for an agreement to be reached soon. We believe students should be in the classroom.
MSVUSU recognizes the impacts that this strike has on students. It is a time of uncertainty for everyone, and it affects students in more than just academic situations.
We, as MSVUSU, reiterate that our first and foremost priority is our students in both academic and non-academic circumstances. It is our duty to ensure you are heard and advocated for during this uncertain time.
We want to hear from you. Your questions, concerns, uncertainties, or anything at all. There is a feedback form in our bio where you can express these thoughts. You may leave it anonymous if you wish. These questions will be used in discussions with the university and to inform our students about their concerns.
Additionally, we are working towards initiatives that better support students during this time. We look forward to sharing these with you.
We stand by our students during this time, and we will continue to support our students during the strike and afterwards.
We encourage students to stay informed, take care of themselves and one another, and reach out to the Students’ Union for guidance or assistance. We are here to support you.

Meet Amanda, your Accessibility Rep Candidate!

Hello students. It’s election week at MSVU and today I stand before you asking for your support, so that I can continue to do what I love. Hi, my name is Amanda Myers (she/her), and I’m running to be your Accessibility Representative for a second term.
I was appointed to office over the summer and although my time’s been brief, I remained focused on important tasks such as building relationships, collaboration, and project planning. From the moment I stepped into office, I have been committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all students. During my first week, I participated in workshops at the Indigenous Student Centre and became aware of the safety issue concerning an onsite ramp. I made it a priority and followed up with the person in charge of safety to help speed up the installation process. I asked questions over the summer and received valuable feedback which identified some of the main concerns students have regarding accessibility, and I’ve been working on an action plan to address these concerns.

So, what’s next? First, I want to talk to you, the students, to hear your ideas and concerns. Do you feel your accessibility needs are being met? What are your concerns regarding accessibility? Do you have ideas on how MSVU could be more accessible? I want to know, so that I can help to make your experience one that you deserve. I have some workshops & events that I’m super excited about. I’ve been communicating with the executive director at the Nova Scotia League for Equal Opportunities and am in the process of planning an on-campus workshop for students. I’m also working with Accessibility Services and other council members to host a mental health initiatives week.
