Hello! My name is Jillian Mozvik (they/she) and I am running for President of the MSVUSU in the 2023 Winter General Election. I am a third year Chemistry student from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. I started off my SU experience as the Femme Representative in Fall 2021 and was appointed to Vice President Student Life in Winter 2022. In this position, I had the joy of planning and executing many exciting events, notably those during Orientation Week 2022 (you may remember the casino night and silent disco as the highlights!).
I had a fantastic time planning these events, as well as promoting accessibility and inclusivity throughout orientation by incorporating quiet areas, stim toy bingo, and advocating for accessible tours. Though I loved making student life more enjoyable and accessible on campus, I felt pushed out of my position due to the dysfunction of the union and its impact on my mental health. Since I resigned in Fall 2022, I have been working on a plan to assure that no one ever feels the way I felt during those months; if elected, I will be focusing the summer on training student representatives and executives, as I felt our team was not well prepared for many aspects of our positions and this prevented us from functioning as a unit. I will also be working on ways to dramatically increase interest in student representative council positions, as our council is mostly vacant, which is unacceptable; we need as many student representatives as possible to hold the executive team accountable and advocate for our diverse groups on campus.
Outside of these plans, my passions lie in advocacy; in the past few months, I have been working as a research lead and developer on a free online program that walks trans and nonbinary people through the process of changing names and gender markers on legal documents, as it is a challenging process that requires a lot of time and effort.
